Rowland Sutherland, Flute

Rowland Sutherland enjoys an international career in diverse fields of music; jazz, new and improvised music, symphony orchestra, solo, non-Western and pop.

Rowland has performed with Flora Purim, Airto, Carla Bley, Nitin Sawhney, Courtney Pine, Zoe Rahman, Lontano, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Phoenix Dance and Rambert Dance.

Rowland has performed at Carnegie Hall, played at the Commonwealth Games Arts Festival Vancouver and the Atlanta Olympics Arts Festival.

Rowland’s composition Enlightenment was featured on BBC Radio 3 and played at James Lavelle’s Meltdown Festival 2014 at London’s South Bank to sell-out audiences.

Rowland leads the Brazilian influenced jazz band Mistura and his composition Coast to Coast from their debut album featured in the movie The Man From Mo’ Wax.

Rowland leads Ethereal World, London Art Collective and has recorded for artists and producers including Incognito, George Benson, Joss Stone, Billie Eilish, Mezzoforte, Hans Zimmer, Us3, Fightstar, Keziah Jones, Omar, William Orbit, Marc Almond and MC Solaar.

Rowland lectures at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, the Universities of Southampton and Middlesex and has tutored at all the major English conservatoires as well as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
